Arriving in this very new city (Oslo) in between 2 waves of corona, where I understand very little of what is being said so instead allow myself to notice, witness and sense. The adverts have little meaning and people speaking, sound more like music than messages.
I found myself like a child, wandering around feeling, moving , partaking in soundscapes and merging in colours. This video is a sort of celebration of what we don't yet know , a sitting in the unknown for a precious while before we start to understand too clearly what is being asked of us. The chorus translated from Norwegian means ' I don't know you yet, but I want to yes, you don't me yet but you want to, maybe'. The chorus was inspired by a chance encounter with a man named Bamba from the ivory coast who talked about the dance of integrating into this culture, it's advantages as well as it's trials.
This video was made my me and the song was produced by Blythe Pepino, lead singer-songwriter of the band ' Mesadorm'. This song is being released on Babylegs records.
lyrics
Mmm Ja
by Brooke Sharkey
Enter, see it, turn back, witness
Water full of cracks
What’s that crow doing all alone
Pecking on a stone
Jeg kjenner deg ikke ennå , men jeg vil det mmm ja
(I don't know you yet, but I want to mmm yes)
Do you speak this language of eyes
What I can I not say?
Filming movement clicks operate
Humans surround views
Hearts light up , ice skates slice snow
can you come play with me?
Sipping coffee, mask off I’m free,
My best friend is now me
Jeg kjenner deg ikke ennå , men jeg vil det mmm ja
(I don't know you yet, but I want to, mmm yes)
Mmm ja , Mmm ja, Mmm ja, Mmm ja
( Mmm yes, mmm yes, mmm yes)
Du kjenner meg ikke ennå , men jeg vil det kanskje
( You don't know me yet, but I want to, maybe)
Jeg kjenner deg ikke ennå , men jeg vil det mmm ja
(I don't know you yet, but I want to mmm yes)
Mmm ja , Mmm ja, Mmm ja, Mmm ja
Mmm ja , Mmm ja, Mmm ja, Mmm ja
( Mmm yes, mmm yes, mmm yes,
mmm yes, mmm yes, mmm yes)
